Luang Prabang Province by Boat

These pictures were taken as we travelled around the province of Luang Prabang. Most of our travel has been by boat and bus. The boat being a narow, rickety, wooden river boat that braved the small rapids of the Mekong River.

Poinsettias

Fish Laap  (Really good)
One fish fillet (skin on ok, but you will need to remove)
Lemongrass
Shallots
Lime
Dill
Mint
Fish Sauce
Toasted rice powder
Whole fried chilies
Ate with sticky rice - A delicious meal

We took a beautiful bike ride with our new friend, Heather.  It was a fantastic way to explore remote villages and learn how to fashion brakes made of bamboo (discovered after the first steep hill).

  1. what a beautiful place! and i would pay a lot to eat some fish laap... i like that you added the recipe. i just took a thai cooking course and i think i'm going to give your dish a go... with a variation minus the fish for tay.

just got your postcard - thanks!! if you're ever in one place long enough, send us an address.

where is your new friend Heather from?

no snow that's stuck around in driftwood yet, but almost. one of our late snow years, it seems. you two look as far from snow as i can imagine.

  2. Our friend Heather is from the US. She won a scholarship to travel across the world for 8 months alone all paid! She is then headed for India and Africa.

The fish laap is amazing. In Lao they make it really spicy. I have to pick out about half the peppers but it is delicious and about 1.50-2.00 USD a serving.
